Winterstar: One Year After – 03

24 Uktar

Metr Lucian –

I know you’ll know who this is from, given who delivered it to you. Lief and I have been in the city for a little less than a tenday, but not under our own names, which is why I haven’t reached out to you before now.

I have a very important question for you, though, one for which I’m risking my incognito mission –

How are you doing?

This isn’t a pleasantry (although you are, of course, welcome to take it as one). Over the past few days I’ve suddenly started feeling ill – but not a normal illness, something more like the… like my magic leaching away at my bones when I was young, before I or anyone else knew what was going on. Indeed, two days ago I thought I had simply allowed my magic to build up a bit too long and that venting a few spells would fix things. But yesterday it was bad enough that I could hardly call up magic at all. I went to see a cleric of Lathander, who passed me off to a cleric of Selûne, who went and fetched a cleric of Oghma. Their final conclusion was that one, there was something wrong with me, two, it was no illness but rather more akin to a curse of some kind, and three, that they could not divine its origin and they suspected it was, and I quote, “from an otherworldly source”.

So, you understand, I am very serious about asking you: Are you well? If this curse is from the obvious candidate for a source-not-of-this-world, are you being affected in a similar way? I’m writing to Aerthrandir and Amity as well, but I don’t know how to contact Caoimhe these days.

Please convey your answer through Lief. You can just have a brief chat with him if you’d like. If you are being affected, then he’ll tell you where to go next to meet me so that we can begin figuring things out. If you aren’t… then that’s very crucial and very interesting information too. (Do you know where Caoimhe is or how to get a message to her?)

Sincerely –

– well, you know.

P.S. Enjoy the bottle of Berduskan Dark. It’s not the famous vintage that recently sold for 1,500 dragons at auction – but it’s from a good year nonetheless.
